My Background

Before training as a therapist, I spent time finding my way — working in graphic design, then in the travel industry, before spending a year travelling solo through Latin America. That experience taught me how to manage stress and anxiety in healthier ways, and gave me a lasting sense of trust in myself. Afterwards, I trained in psychotherapy, a process that required being in my own therapy for several years — an experience that taught me first-hand what it takes to be a client, and shaped how I now work with mine.

Along the way, I discovered how much being in nature helped me manage stress, which led me to integrate ecotherapy (applied ecopsychology) into my practice. I also found Zen Buddhism and mindfulness, which have given me a greater sense of calm, presence, and the ability to sit with difficult thoughts and feelings without being overwhelmed by them — something I bring directly into how I show up with clients.

My Approach to Therapy

I believe it’s essential to treat clients with compassion, respect, and warmth — and compassion isn’t about being sugar-coated. Sometimes it means being gentle and soft; other times it means being challenging and firm, always in service of helping you feel better. As therapy evolves, what you want to work on will change, and we adapt as we go. I draw on a range of therapeutic models — including psychodynamic psychotherapy, DBT, ISTDP, and mindfulness — rather than a fixed template, because therapy is deeply personal and unique to each individual.

How to Begin

The first session is a chance for us to meet and for you to get a sense of whether I’m the right fit — sometimes that takes a few sessions, and that’s completely fine. It’s an informal conversation guided by what feels comfortable for you, not a set list of questions. Near the end, we’ll talk about how the session felt and whether it makes sense to continue.

As I am currently not accepting new clients, please contact me by email to discuss availability or to be added to my waiting list.

Clinical Supervision

I offer clinical supervision for psychotherapists, counsellors, psychologists, and other health professionals. I prefer working with practitioners who bring video recordings of their sessions, as it allows us to see directly what’s happening in the work without filters. Though this can feel vulnerable at first, it’s a powerful way to grow as a clinician and become more effective for your clients.

I draw on psychodynamic and attachment theory, as well as Affect State Therapy, and bring both my personal and professional experience across NGO, agency, DHB, and private-sector settings into our supervision work together.
